Project Overview
In a pioneering move toward environmental sustainability and reducing operating costs, Suffolk Wildlife Trust had asked Styne Renewables to design and install a solar PV system at its Carlton Marshes visitor centre. Set within the heart of the Broads National Park, the site underscores the Trust’s commitment to protecting biodiversity while reducing its carbon footprint.

Roof and Mounting System
A key challenge in the installation was the distinctive zinc standing seam roof. To preserve the roof’s structural integrity, warranty and aesthetic value, custom-engineered mounting brackets were sourced from Germany. These brackets were specifically designed to integrate with the seam profiles without penetrating or damaging the roofing material, ensuring both long-term durability and visual consistency.
Wildlife Considerations
Given the site’s ecological sensitivity, special bird protection measures were installed to prevent nesting beneath the Modules without harming wildlife. These safeguards ensure that the solar array supports conservation goals rather than inadvertently impacting local species.

Environment Impact
This installation is projected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the reserve’s energy independence. It stands as a model for how renewable technologies can be harmonised with conservation work.
This system is expected to produce an annual generation of 69,131kWh with an estimated CO2 reduction of 15,206 kg.
